1610 King James 1 Privy Seal with attached document
Privy Seal of King James 1 of England with attached vellum document. April 1, 1610. Document is 13.5" x 8" and rubbed, affecting the legibility of several words. It is a license of alienation from John Savage to William Warmystry.
A Privy Seal was used for the monarch's personal business while the Great Seal was used for more important state documents. The seal itself is 6" in diameter, worn, with a little missing wax along the top and bottom edges of the seal.
Protected in a red cloth covered box measuring 10" x 8" x 2" with gilded title: "James 1. Document with Privy Seal 1 April 1610" on the front cover and on the spine. Front cover separating from spine.
